We received one last earnings report over the weekend, and it came from our single largest position, which happens to be the holding company for Warren Buffett, explains Matt Coffina, editor of Morningstar Stock Investor.
It was a strong finish to an all-around solid year for Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-B). The high-level takeaway is that book value per share advanced 18%.
CEO Warren Buffett focuses on book value per share as an objectivehough significantly understatedroxy for intrinsic value.
Under Buffett's leadership over the past 49 years, Berkshire's book value per share has compounded at an incredible 19.7% annual rate.
However, over the last ten years, book value per share has grown roughly 10% annually, reflecting the challenges of growing from such a large base. I suspect 10% annual book value growth is about what we can expect from Berkshire going forward.
Assuming the price/book multiple stays at the current levelhich I think is likely, if not conservativehen we can expect similar total returns from Berkshire's stock over the long run.

Here are four to consider:
PowerShares S&P 500 BuyWrite ETF (PBP), yielding 4.09%
Madison/Claymore Covered Call & Equity Strategy (MCN), yielding 8.94%
Nuveen Equity Premium Opportunity Fund (JSN), yielding 9.19%

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Maxx Chatsko]
The horrendous flops
I wrote a blog post explaining why Knightsbridge Tankers (NASDAQ: VLCCF ) made the right move in slashing its dividend and why its prospects were looking up. The shipping company was extremely undervalued at the time, so why was I wrong? I made the mistake of thinking that a company trading below book value represented good value for shareholders. In reality, many shipping companies were -- and are -- trading below shareholders' equity because their fleets are enormously valuable assets. Unfortunately, that inflates book value enormously. It may not seem so harmful at first, but perpetually low charter rates have actually forced many shippers -- including Knightsbridge -- to sell tankers at less than market value to keep the lights on. Those practices can erase large chunks of book value overnight.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By FinanceGuru]
Compelling product and customer base Finisar appears to have one of the broadest product portfolios in the industry. While the firm does have a number of potent competitors, notably JDS Uniphase (JDSU) in the telecom space and Avago (AVGO) in the datacom space, it appears that no other company matches the breadth of Finisar's product offerings across both of these segments.

Analysts at Argus Research downgraded JDS Uniphase (NASDAQ: JDSU) to Hold from Buy. Shares lost 0.69 percent, closing at $10.86.
Analysts at Wells Fargo downgraded KKR & Co (NYSE: KKR) to Market Perform from Outperform. Shares lost 2.08 percent, closing at $22.58.
- [By John Divine]
Lastly, JDS Uniphase (NASDAQ: JDSU ) shed 3.6% today. The company makes equipment that measures and tests the use of communications technology, and naturally many of its customers include players in the telecom business. Unfortunately for JDS shareholders, telecom was the worst-performing sector in the market today. Like Micron, shares are extraordinarily volatile -- they swing nearly three times more violently than the average stock -- so even a slight setback like today's sluggish telecom sector can cause chaotic price movements.
